NEW YORK AUTUMN MUST SEES & DOS
I hope I’m not alone in saying that autumn is my absolute favorite season!! Give me apple cider, cozy sweaters, and crisp air all year round. Here are some fall things to do in New York this 2018 season. (Note: these are all non-scary things because I am a chicken!)
The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze – October 4th– 31st & select November dates
Walk through an impressive display of more than 7,000 pumpkins all lit up! Gaze at a pumpkin planetarium, a bridge made of pumpkins, and other creative scenes. As you marvel at the orange glow, munch on doughnuts and sip on apple cider. Tickets are $22 for adults ($27 on Fri/Sat) and $16 for children ($20 on Fri/Sat). From Grand Central Station, take the Hudson 841 Poughkeepsie train to Croton-Harmon Station.

Harry Potter: A History of Magic at the New York Historical Society – October 5th 2018 – January 27th 2019
Even though your Hogwarts letter got lost in the mail, you still have an opportunity to discover the subjects studied at the best wizarding school and see original drafts and drawings by J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter illustrator Jim Kay when you get your tickets to this British Library exhibition at the New York Historical Society. There will also be costumes as well as set models from the Harry Potter and the Cursed Childplay! Tickets are $21 for adults, $13 for students, and $6 for kids. Take the B or C subway to 81st Street, the 1 to 79th Street, the M10 bus to 77th Street, or the M79 bus to 81st Street and Central Park West. Hurry, tickets are selling out!!

Giant Pumpkin Weekend at the New York Botanical Garden – October 20th & 21st
If you are in the city and don’t have a car to travel and see some pumpkins of your own, head over to the New York Botanical Garden for the Giant Pumpkin Weekend! Huge pumpkins are brought in from all over the country, some even weighing more than a ton. Tickets on the weekend are $28 for adults and $12 for children. From Grand Central Terminal, take the Metro-North Harlem local line to Botanical Garden Station or take the B, D or 4 train to Bedford Park Boulevard Station and then hop on the Bx26 bus to the Garden’s Mosholu Entrance.

Murder Mystery at the Mt. Vernon Hotel & Museum – October 20th, 26th, & 27th
A historical newspaper mentioned that an unidentified skeleton had been discovered at the Mt. Vernon Hotel many years ago, and now the Mt. Vernon Hotel & Museum loosely bases a fictional mystery game around this article! Each year, a new story is created and you are tasked with walking around the museum by candlelight gathering clues to figure out who was the murderer, victim, and the weapon used. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children, and reservations are required. Hop on the M15, M31, or M57 bus to get there or take the N, R, 4, 5, or 6 to 59th Street/Lexington Avenue Station or the F to Lexington Avenue.

Halloween Pumpkin Flotilla in Central Park – October 28th, 4 – 7pm
Partake in pumpkin carving, Halloween crafts, spooky stories and more at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center in Central Park, inside the Park at 100th Street between 5th and Lenox Avenues. When the sun begins to set, watch as 50 jack o’lanterns float across the Harlem Meer! If you would like to be a proud owner of one of the selected 50, your already carved pumpkin must be no heavier than eight pounds and the ones chosen are on a first come, first serve basis. More rules are on the website. The event is free!

Village Halloween Parade – October 31st, 7pm
The 45th Annual Village Halloween Parade is upon us! The theme is “I am a Robot,” but as long as you are in some type of costume, you can join the parade and walk with thousands of others celebrating Halloween. To join the parade, enter on 6th Avenue at Canal Street. If you would like to be a spectator, you can watch as the parade walks straight up 6th Avenue from Spring Street to 16th Street from 7pm to around 11pm.
