POST HOTEL & SPA, LAKE LOUISE, AB

The Post Hotel & Spa, honored with a One Michelin Key in 2024, is a spectacularly cozy hotel snuggled in the heart of Lake Louise, Alberta. We visited smack dab in the middle of winter, and there are plenty of places to eat and things to do both in and around the hotel.

THINGS TO DO

You can ice skate Lake Louise or ski at the Lake Louise Ski Resort, both less than a 10-minute drive from the hotel. However, if you’d like a frozen experience all to yourself, be sure to check out the Post Hotel’s very own ice-skating rink, just outside the front lobby! Please note that there is truly no shortage of winter activities around the Post Hotel & Spa, and these are just the tip of the iceberg. In one hour, you can be in Golden, BC on a snowmobile or in Canmore, AB in a dog sled. In 45 minutes, you can be on skis in Banff, AB. In 30 minutes, you can be in ice cleats hiking to see gorgeous Peyto Lake views. It all depends on what you want to do, and the Post Hotel’s prime location certainly helps with that.

If you’d prefer to stay inside, take a dip in the hotel’s indoor salt water pool. There is also a whirlpool and steam room if you’d like to warm up even more! In addition, the hotel boasts a library, complete with a fireplace, books, and boardgames. To cap off a truly relaxing day bundled up inside, take advantage of the hotel’s spa. CJ and I got massages after a day of skiing, and they were absolutely incredible.

THINGS TO EAT

Once you have whipped up an appetite skiing, ice skating, and playing boardgames, all you need to do is head to the first floor of the hotel for an incredible meal! Perhaps you want to eat something light at Sir Norman Lounge or The Outpost. Maybe you are craving a bigger meal to be enjoyed at The Dining Room. No matter what you are hungry for, the Post Hotel has something for you. Personally, our favorite meal was at Fondue Stübli, located just next to The Dining Room. Fondue Stübli features traditional Swiss fondues, including a classic cheese fondue and chocolate fondue. However, for the lactose averse, there are other fondue options as well! Fondue Stübli is quite small, so I recommend making a reservation in advance.

Just next door to the Post Hotel is a casual eatery called Bill Peyto’s Café, which is absolutely delicious. If you are out and about, maybe ice skating on Lake Louise, perhaps opt for lunch or dinner at the Fairmont Château Lake Louise. The hotel’s Sky Bistro offers breathtaking views of Lake Louise and its surrounding mountains. We were lucky enough to sit right next to the window, enjoying the view of skaters on the lake! We have also had dinner at the Fairmont’s Alps-inspired restaurant, Walliser Stube. The floor to ceiling display of wine bottles and the impeccable service made the evening really special.

THINGS TO NOTE

There is a freight train that goes by this hotel. If hearing trains go by is not your thing, fear not! There is a quiet side of the hotel. When you are making your reservation, be sure to be on the lookout for “Railway Side” rooms versus “Preferred Side” rooms. You want to reserve a Preferred Side room to have peace and quiet!

While there is indeed space to park your car, the Post Hotel does not have an indoor garage. Thus, you will need to utilize the parking lot in front of the hotel. This is just something to be aware of, so you can make time to warm up your car before you set out for the day!

To conclude, with unbelievable ambiance and charm, so much to do and eat both inside the hotel and nearby, I am excited for your very own stay at the Post Hotel & Spa!
