BANFF GONDOLA, AB

If you need a break from the plethora of physical activities that Banff has to offer, consider taking the Banff Gondola up to the Sulphur Mountain summit and enjoy sweeping views of mountains such as Mount Rundle, Cascade Mountain, and Mount Bourgeau. The Banff Gondola is located at the base of Sulphur Mountain at the end of Mountain Avenue in Banff, Alberta, nestled in the Canadian Rockies. There is a small parking lot at the Banff Gondola base, but I suggest taking Bow Valley Roam Public Transit. Buses run regularly, with a stop right in front of the Banff Gondola. For more information, visit the Roam Transit website.

Once you arrive at the Banff Gondola, you have the opportunity to peruse the gift shop and the Starbucks that is on site. However, if you skip these options, have no fear! You can get your caffeine fix from Castle Mountain Coffee Co. and grab souvenirs at the peak as well. To get to the peak, you will travel via gondola for eight minutes, rising 698 meters (2,292 feet).

There you will find interactive informative exhibits, a 360-degree rooftop observation deck, and delicious food offerings. CJ and I ate at the Sky Bistro and not only was it delicious, but the views were STUNNING, as the restaurant offered floor to ceiling glass windows.

Now technically if you are still itching for a bit of activity and the skiing, hiking, snow tubing, and ice skating around Banff just wasn’t enough, there are several scenic hiking trails that lead away from the summit complex. In particular, the Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk to Sanson’s Peak is a very popular trail! For 30 years, Norman Sanson walked to the top of Sulphur Mountain weekly to check the weather until 1945, when he was an impressive 84 years old.

peep Sanson’s Peak!

Walk in Norman Sanson’s footsteps with a hike, have lunch, or just take in the views and enjoy all that is offered at the Banff Gondola!
